Weyerhaeuser Columbus Mill - Columbus, MS

This plant has been purchased by International Paper

Challenge:

Design, manufacture and install a new Dry ESP for a combination boiler to bring the Weyerhaeuser Columbus Mill into MACT compliance.  Outlet emissions required to be within 0.03 lb/MMBtu with a 10% opacity, when burning wood waste, oil, natural gas, NCG or a combination of these fuels.

Southern Environmental’s Solution:

Southern Environmental, Inc. designed, built and installed a new Dry ESP complete with new ductwork.  Tie in of the new unit took place during the plants 6 day, October 2015 outage. During the outage Southern Environmental, Inc. demolished existing ductwork at the multi-clone and stack to accommodate the new ESP ductwork.  The new equipment required modification of the existing access platforms and steel. Various ductwork designs were evaluated to achieve the most economical arrangement from a total cost perspective while maximizing operational flexibility.  Various options of total capital cost, pressure drop, and ash drop-out potential where presented to Weyerhaeuser in order for them to choose a design to best fit their operational objectives and cost.
